Sweet Peanuts is a Social Enterprise Business Award Finalist

Sweet Peanuts has been named as a finalist in the Social Enterprise Award in the Australian Small Business Champion Awards 2023.

The Australian Small Business Champion Awards is a prestigious and comprehensive program that supports and recognises small businesses across Australia.

Offering a unique opportunity to highlight Australia’s most outstanding small businesses, the awards seek to recognise the hard work that business owners contribute to the local community in generating employment for millions of Australians, as well as their contribution to the Australian economy.

The awards are the pinnacle of business success. They recognise the values associated with successful businesses.

Sweet Peanuts is one amongst 17 category finalists in the Social Enterprise Business Award.

Service and Community Contributions

Sweet Peanuts will endeavour to be delicate in its operations and not compromise on quality or care that goes into our products and services. All the care items have been developed and suggested by parents that have experienced a miscarriage so that we can ensure that we are providing the most amount of care and comfort possible for Peanut parents.

We encourage anyone who is sponsoring a care package to send through a message of support, this is then sent on with the items or package they have chosen to sponsor and we contact the customer to advise them when their sponsored package has been successfully donated.

We are delivering services and donation of care packages to local hospitals with plans to expand to a national level. These donations are passed on to bereaved women and parents in our local community, allowing for improved support and awareness of our organisation in the Moreton Bay Region. As a social enterprise, we also advocate and continually encourage other organisations and businesses to consider this sector as a leading business model.

Commitment in Business and Environment Sustainability

Each of our care package items have been carefully sourced from local Australian businesses that value sustainability, ethical business practices, and working towards the sustainable development goals. For example, sanitary pads by Moxie (use biodegradable organic cotton), soaps by Lil’ Bit Better (a Cruelty Free Accredited and Palm oil free based business) and journals by Braw Paper Co (printed in Perth, Western Australia onto 100% recycled paper using vegetable-based inks).

Through this method, we are also a partnership for the goals by connecting and collaborating with other social enterprises that each have their own purposes and missions. We will continue to embed these values in all aspects of the organisation as we develop into a national organisation.

Our endeavours in business will be to consistently strive for better conversations around miscarriage and pregnancy loss. This will be achieved through ongoing advocacy for supportive conversations, positive policy and procedure changes, and support from the health departments in each state. Our founder’s commitment has continued into 2023 as Barbara has resumed her postgraduate study at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in a Masters of Business degree as a returning student.

What Does the Future Hold for Sweet Peanuts

Sweet Peanuts will continue its growth collaboratively with other organisations and social enterprises that align with our mission, starting with the 2023 collaboration with TradeMutt. The social enterprise will expand its service offering to allow for increased revenue through care items, gift boxes, and hampers to suit all occasions. Our 10 year goal is to expand and become a leading source of gift ideas and options and we will submit a tender to be a sponsor of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
